Folsom Dam Auxiliary Spillway 2

Folsom Dam Auxiliary Spillway Phases II-IV

2013-2016
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers & Bureau of Reclamation
Folsom, CA

In Phase II of the Folsom Dam Spillway project, NCB drilled and installed over 8,000 rock anchors, drilled 200 slope drains, placed 350,000 square feet of wire mesh drapery, and placed 5,800 cubic yards of shotcrete. During the project NCB crews encountered not only weak soil conditions, but were also required to drill up to 75 ft through rock fill. This required NCB to quickly adjust their drilling methods, equipment and grouting procedures.

During the excavation of the spillway channel in Phase III, NCB provided drilling and blasting services for the excavation of the control structure.

In Phase IV of the Folsom Dam Spillway Project, NCB performed approach and stilling basin structure excavation, including pre-split, production and floor control. NCB also drilled and installed anchors, provided high angle rock scaling services, installed wire mesh rockfall protection systems, and placed over 500 cubic yards of shotcrete.

Each phase of work was completed on schedule with minimal equipment downtime and no reported injuries.
